Bank card validation for transport tickets rolls out in Île-de-France Published on June 19, 2026 - Service Public / Directorate of Legal and Administrative Information (Prime Minister's Office)

Starting July 2026, a new service is being rolled out on public transport in Île-de-France: ticket vending machines accepting bank cards. The system is already in place on certain bus lines in Paris, the inner suburbs, and other regions. It aims to facilitate travel for very occasional users.

The operator Île-de-France Mobilités is continuing the rollout of onboard ticket vending machines accepting bank cards, initiated in 2025.

The "validator" is a backup solution for buying a ticket when you board. It complements other purchasing options available to residents of Île-de-France (IDF Mobilités app, digital wallets, Navigo Easy). It also improves access to transport for tourists who do not have tickets or passes (48% of tourists buy their tickets from vending machines).

How does ticket purchase work on the machine?

  • Hold your contactless bank card in front of the vending machine. Keep it there until the green light signals that your purchase is validated.

  • The same bank card can be used to buy multiple tickets for group travel, up to 4 people per card. Wait 2 seconds between each purchase before swiping your bank card again.

  • You can obtain proof of purchase by scanning the QR code displayed on the machine. In case of inspection, your bank card serves as proof of purchase.

Your ticket is valid for 1 hour on the line where you purchased it with your bank card.

What are the fares on bank card vending machines?

The prices for transport tickets via vending machines are as follows:

  • Bus/tram/funicular: €2.55 (i.e., +€0.50 over the standard price);

  • Metro/train/RER: €3.35 (i.e., +€0.80 over the standard price);

  • Airports: €14.80 (i.e., +€0.80 over the standard price).

Transfers are not included, regardless of the mode of transport.

Rollout schedule for bank card vending machines

  • From June 30, 2026: at the exit of Orly Airport (Metro Line 14) to facilitate tourist departures.

  • From July 8, 2026: Montmartre Funicular.

  • July 2027: Metro Line 1.

  • By the end of 2027: Metro Lines 4, 14, 15, and 18.

  • By the end of 2028: Metro Lines 7 and 12; complete bus and coach network in Île-de-France.

  • By 2030: rollout on the rest of the rail network.

1,300 buses in Paris and the inner suburbs are already equipped with vending machines; the entire bus network in Paris and the inner suburbs will be equipped by the end of August 2026.
