From September 19 to November 7, 2026, RDV presents To the Trees, the Sentinels**, an exhibition by artist Pierre Kurczewski as part of the Quinzaine Photographique Nantaise.** Opening reception on Friday, September 18 from 6 p.m.Meet the artist and attend a reading on Saturday, October 10 at 5 p.m. In 2025, Pierre Kurczewski published a book boxed set comprising 9 booklets, each accompanied by a text. Each booklet presents elements from 9 distinct series. Images taken from two of these series are on display at the RDV gallery.At the heart of this work lies the idea of landscape as a territory of resonance.Here, the image is conceived not as a space that shows or reveals, but as a space beyond, or perhaps beneath. An image traversed.Photographic technique is therefore viewed not as a means of possible representation, but as a way of reclaiming space.The two series presented here explore questions surrounding the image by reflecting on our relationship with landscape and intimacy—or perhaps what might be called an “intimacy of landscape.” This work explores the notions of traces, erasure and disappearance, recording and marking, observation, construction and deconstruction, and, more broadly, the tensions between the concepts of nature and culture.These images, titled Arbres, Chemins, Montagnes-Ciels or Sentinelles, invite us to perceive the space that connects our inner lives to the landscape. They open up a field: the fragile balance that connects us to—or separates us from—the living world.
