On display at the IMA library, a precious record of everyday Palestinian life—its people, places, and memories—through a photo essay produced twenty-five years ago and never before shown to the public.
The exhibition is being held as part of the 2026 European Heritage Days and in honor of the IMA library's new name, Bibliothèque Leïla Shahid, named after the prominent voice of Palestine in France and Europe who passed away last February. In 2001, the IMA commissioned Joss Dray to produce a photographic report on Palestine. Through her photographs, she documents the daily lives of Palestinians, whether they live in the Palestinian territories, refugee camps, or the diaspora. Her work notably takes in the camps of Jabalia, Shati, Kalandia, Dheisheh, Jénine, as well as several camps in Liban. French photographer Joss Dray began documenting the daily lives and forms of resistance of the Palestinian people in 1987. Her work has been featured in numerous exhibitions and publications, including Returning to Jénine: A Living History of the Refugee Camp (1989–2018), published in 2020 with a foreword by Leïla Shahid.
