Réserve écologique des barails
This spot is little known to tourists but essential for urban nature lovers. It is a genuine preserved wetland in the heart of the city. The walk is peaceful, ideal for birdwatching without being disturbed by traffic noise. Access is open and free, making it a perfect option for a quick post-lunch stroll.
Plage du Lac
This is the must-visit spot of a Bordeaux summer. The artificial lake offers safe, supervised swimming and is much cleaner than the Garonne. The atmosphere is relaxed and family-friendly, with well-designed picnic areas. Be warned: you need to arrive early on weekends to find a decent parking spot, as the site draws a big crowd.
Parc de l'Ermitage Sainte-Catherine
Set on the heights of Lormont, this park offers one of the most beautiful views over Bordeaux and the Garonne. The paths are shaded and perfectly maintained. Practical Tips
To visit these places, prioritize TBM public transport. Tram C serves Plage du Lac and Ivazio Island. Tram A provides access to Parc bordelais and Réserve des Barails via the relevant stops. For Lormont, Tram B stops at Lormont Centre, then a few minutes’ walk is enough to reach l'Ermitage. Mérignac and Canéjan are accessible by bus lines or Tram B/C depending on the stops.
