On the occasion of the bicentennial of photography, the Archives of Nantes invite you to discover a selection of photographs taken in the 19th century in Nantes. From public and private collections held at the Archives of Nantes and the Jean-Claude Potet collection, these photographs are among the oldest views of Nantes. They present us with a city in suspension - reflecting the long exposure times required for their creation. Developed on 18 panels, this exhibition showcases around thirty large-format photographs created using the wet collodion technique adopted by photographers between 1850 and 1880. Panoramas of Nantes, the banks of the Loire and Erdre, the squares of the city center… these images offer us a true journey through time.
