Far from starting with a blank slate, the new République neighborhood on the Île de Nantes is rooted in its immediate surroundings and its history. Railway and industrial heritage, memories of the Loire, or the spirit of the faubourgs: there are many sources of inspiration. Combining heritage and urban-planning perspectives, we will uncover traces of the past and explore the issues shaping a neighborhood being built for tomorrow.
