Discover the book Romanian Dolls in the presence of its author Marie Khazrai, novelist and coach for female leaders. Her first novel offers a different perspective on incest and seeks a truth that discourse conceals. The sentences move in all directions to try to bring truth to the surface. The event centers on the author's work and book, accompanied by readings of excerpts and a time for exchange and questions with the audience.
On stage, her foot breaks and her career is interrupted, leaving her without a compass. Bad luck? Destiny? The needle gone mad always points to the same north: Romania, her mother's homeland. So, it's decided. She will make the journey with her to the farm where her grandmother and aunt live. For six days, she will investigate. But in this village ravaged by communism, she is led astray. Poisoners, ogres, vampires: the confidences turn into tales and a hundred years of Romanian history join the dance. Because these women seem connected by one thing. It's called savagery and inhabits each of their bodies. TW: domestic violence, incest, sexual violence, violence against women, family trauma. Context of violence and persecution under communist regime Event schedule: - 3pm-4pm: Discussions about the novel Romanian Dolls, at Les Avrils Editions - 4pm-4:30pm: Q&A with the audience followed by a book signing and informal exchanges The book will be available for sale at 22€ thanks to the Flora Lit bookstore present on site.
