Social leasing for electric cars extended from July 16, 2026 Published on June 16, 2026 - Service Public / Directorate of Legal and Administrative Information (Prime Minister)
Social leasing allows you to have an electric car by paying a monthly rent, without being required to purchase it at the end of the contract. The rental contract must last at least 3 years. This rental mechanism, reserved for the most modest households, was introduced for the first time in 2024. It is being renewed for a third edition starting July 16, 2026. Service Public presents the details.
Social leasing is a support scheme for long-term rental of electric cars available in Metropolitan France, the Overseas Departments and Regions (DROM), and Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon. To benefit from it in 2026, the following conditions apply.

Your reference tax income per share must be less than or equal to €16,880 (if the first rent payment for the vehicle rental is made in 2026, the reference tax income taken into account is that shown on your tax notice for 2025 regarding 2024 income).

The portion of the journey between your home and workplace, traveled exclusively with your personal vehicle, must be strictly greater than 10 kilometers. If you are an employee, your employer must provide a certificate justifying this distance. If you are not an employee, you must provide a sworn statement along with proof of affiliation to a social security scheme for the current year. Alternatively, you must drive more than 8,000 kilometers per year for professional purposes using your personal vehicle.

The social leasing scheme applies within the framework of long-term rental (LLD) or rental with a purchase option (LOA); in both cases, the rental contract duration must be at least 3 years. At the end of this contract, you must return the vehicle or buy it at its residual value (this is the value of the car at the end of the rental contract, taking into account depreciation).
The monthly rent payable for the vehicle rental depends on the car model you choose. For the 2026 edition of social leasing, this rent will definitely be less than €200 per month for mileage of at least 15,000 km/year without additional fees (this does not include insurance costs, nor the price of options or additional services).
How to order a car with social leasing in 2026?
Orders for electric cars with social leasing will be possible starting July 16, 2026.
You will be able to choose from various electric car models offered by approved lessors, which meet the eligibility conditions of the scheme (subject to vehicle availability). The list of vehicles eligible for 2026 social leasing is available on the ADEME website. Note that only new vehicles are eligible (used cars or those converted to electric are excluded from the scheme). To obtain the aid, you must contact an automotive professional registered with the ASP (Agency for Services and Payments); they will handle all administrative procedures.
The aid granted is equal to 29% of the vehicle's acquisition cost, capped at €6,500.
This cap can reach a maximum amount of €9,000 if the vehicle manufacturing site and the battery production site are located in the European Economic Area. If the electric motor was manufactured in the European Economic Area, a flat bonus of €500 may be granted.

If you benefited from electric vehicle leasing in 2024 or 2025, you will not be eligible for the 2026 social leasing aid.
