Minimum wage to increase on June 1 Published on May 18, 2026 - Service Public / Directorate of Legal and Administrative Information (Prime Minister)

The SMIC (French minimum wage) increases every year on January 1. It is also automatically adjusted during the year in case of high inflation. The SMIC will therefore increase by 2.41% on June 1, notably due to the sharp rise in energy prices.

On May 13, the National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies (Insee) indicated that in April 2026, the consumer price index (CPI) rose by 2.2% over one year. This significant inflation is explained by the sharp increase in energy prices – particularly oil – in the current context of conflict in the Middle East.

Under the law, the SMIC is automatically adjusted when the consumer price index rises by at least 2% compared to the index recorded at the last change in the SMIC amount; the level of the SMIC increase is then determined taking into account the rise in the consumer price index.

The SMIC will therefore increase by 2.41% on June 1, 2026. The new amounts will be as follows:

  • the gross hourly SMIC will be €12.31, compared to €12.02 currently;

  • the gross monthly SMIC for full-time work will be €1,867.02, compared to €1,823.03 currently (an increase of €43.99 gross per month);

  • the net monthly SMIC for full-time work will be €1,477.93, compared to €1,443.11 currently (an increase of €34.82 net per month).

These amounts apply in mainland France, Guadeloupe, French Guiana, Martinique, Réunion, Saint Barthélemy, Saint Martin, and Saint Pierre and Miquelon.

In Mayotte, the gross hourly SMIC will be €9.56 from June 1, compared to €9.33 previously. The gross monthly SMIC for full-time work will be €1,449.93, compared to €1,415.05 currently (an increase of €34.88 gross per month).
