The middle school scholarship is awarded for one school year to families whose income does not exceed a certain ceiling; this ceiling varies according to the number of dependent children.

For the 2026-2027 school year, your level of resources and the number of dependent children you have must be documented by your 2026 tax notice (or non-taxation notice), covering your 2025 income. For parents living together as unmarried partners, both incomes are taken into account. In the case of alternating residence, the income of the scholarship applicant or of their reconstituted household will be taken into account.

If your financial resources are modest, you may also be eligible for other schooling assistance, such as the back-to-school allowance (ARS) or the middle school social fund.

2026-2027 campaign calendar

The 2026-2027 campaign for middle school scholarship applications begins on the first day of the school year. It ends on October 15, 2026, whether your child attends a public or private school, and whether the application is made online or using a paper form.

For students enrolled with Cned (Centre national d'enseignement à distance), the application deadline is October 31, 2026.

If you gave your consent at the previous back-to-school period for automatic review of scholarship eligibility, you do not need to take any steps this year; your eligibility will be reviewed automatically.

Amounts and payment dates in 2026-2027

For the 2026-2027 school year, the annual amount of assistance is:

  • €120 for level 1;

  • €336 for level 2;

  • €525 for level 3.

Payment is made in 3 installments, once each term of the school year: generally at the end of December, the end of March and the end of June.

You can use the middle school scholarship simulator offered by the Ministry of National Education. It lets you know whether your household may qualify for a scholarship during the 2026-2027 school year and estimate its amount.

A boarding school allowance of €327 (1st level), €396 (2nd level) and €465 (3rd level) is awarded to all middle school scholarship students who are boarders. It is strictly linked to scholarship student status. It is paid in 3 installments, at the same time as the scholarship. Families do not need to complete a specific application.

How do you apply for a scholarship for the 2026-2027 school year?

Your child attends a public school

You can consent to the automatic review of your scholarship eligibility when enrolling or re-enrolling your child in collège for the 2026-2027 school year. This consent counts as a scholarship application.

For the automatic review of scholarship eligibility, you are asked to provide your civil status details (surname and given names, date and place of birth), as well as those of any unmarried partner. This allows the tax data needed to review your scholarship application to be retrieved. You are then exempt from submitting a scholarship application in subsequent back-to-school periods thanks to the retention of your consent.

If you do not consent to this system, you can submit your scholarship application during the 2026-2027 campaign:

Your child attends a private school

Your application can only be made using the national middle school scholarship application form for the 2026-2027 school year. Once completed, the form must be sent or submitted to your child's school office with the required supporting documents.

Your child is enrolled at Centre national d'enseignement à distance (Cned)

Your scholarship application must also be made using the form. It must be sent, together with supporting documents, to the academic service for Cned national scholarships (to the scholarship service of the académie de Rouen, located in Eure, if your child is enrolled in a general education class; and to the scholarship service of the académie de Toulouse, located in Ariège, if your child is enrolled in a general and vocational adapted education class - Segpa).

A national platform offers assistance if you have questions about your scholarship application:
