University: What are the enrollment fees for 2026? Published August 21, 2026 - Public Service / Legal and Administrative Information Directorate (Prime Minister)

To enroll in a higher education institution, you must pay registration fees as well as a student and campus life contribution (CVEC). For the academic year 2026-2027, the CVEC amounts to 105€.
Grant-receiving students are exempt from registration fees and the CVEC.
Since the 2024-2025 academic year, the amounts of registration fees in public higher education institutions are determined based on the national consumer price index excluding tobacco reported by the National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies (INSEE). The index is measured in the month of January preceding the academic year in question. Registration fee amounts are thus revised each year.
For the academic year 2026-2027, registration fees are set at:
-
178€ for a bachelor's degree or national diploma awarded during studies leading to a bachelor's degree;
-
255€ for a master's degree or national diploma awarded during studies leading to a master's degree;
-
398€ for a doctorate or research direction qualification;
-
2,620€ for an engineering degree – engineering training program in central schools established as schools external to universities and attached to the Ministry of Higher Education, or training at the Nancy School of Mines (except for engineering training programs started before September 1, 2018, for which annual tuition fees amount to 630€);
-
630€ for other engineering degrees – engineering training programs in other engineering schools attached to the Ministry of Higher Education, whether in the first year or during training.
When a student pursues multiple degrees at the same institution, they pay the first registration at full rate and others at a reduced rate.
These reduced-rate registration fees are set at:
-
118€ for a bachelor's degree or national diploma awarded during studies leading to a bachelor's degree;
-
167€ for a master's degree or national diploma awarded during studies leading to a master's degree;
-
265€ for a doctorate or research direction qualification;
-
1,747€ for an engineering degree – engineering training program in central schools established as schools external to universities and attached to the Ministry of Higher Education, or training at the Nancy School of Mines (except for engineering training programs started before September 1, 2018, for which annual tuition fees amount to 420€);
-
420€ for other engineering degrees – engineering training programs in other engineering schools attached to the Ministry of Higher Education, whether in the first year or during training.

Differentiated Registration Fee Amounts
Since April 2019, differentiated registration fees have been implemented for non-French students enrolled in a higher education institution for obtaining a national degree at bachelor's or master's level. These foreign students must pay registration fees in an amount different from that applicable to French nationals.
Certain foreign students are not subject to differentiated registration fees: nationals of European Union member states, the European Economic Area, Quebec, Switzerland, etc.
For the academic year 2026-2027, differentiated registration fees amount to:

2,902€ for a bachelor's degree or national diploma awarded during studies leading to a bachelor's degree (and 1,934€ for the reduced rate, applied to additional programs when enrolling in more than one course at the same institution);
-
3,950€ for a master's degree or national diploma awarded during studies leading to a master's degree (and 2,633€ for the reduced rate, applied to additional programs when enrolling in more than one course at the same institution).
Differentiated registration fees do not apply to doctorates; for this degree, registration fees are therefore set, as for other students, at 398€ (and 265€ for the reduced rate).
Universities may exempt certain foreign students from these differentiated fees. The rules regarding this possibility of exemption evolved on May 21, 2026.
