The new subsidy measure for the purchase or leasing of a used electric vehicle is established under the "energy savings certificates – ESC" program, a scheme financed by energy and fuel suppliers, as well as their partners. It can be requested from September 1st, 2026.

What are the eligibility conditions for the subsidy?

To benefit from the subsidy, the car you purchase or lease must meet several criteria, including:

  • be 100% electric (hybrid vehicles are therefore excluded from the program);

  • have been registered for the first time in France, with this registration taking place between January 1, 2017 and December 31, 2023 (a vehicle originally registered in another country and then imported to France is therefore not eligible);

  • be leased or purchased from an authorized automotive professional;

  • be equipped with a battery still in good condition (at least 80% of its original capacity, or failing that the vehicle's remaining range must be at least 200 km or at least 80% of the range established at the time of vehicle certification).

Furthermore, to benefit from the subsidy, you must commit to keeping the vehicle for at least 3 years; or if it is a lease, the contract duration must be at least 3 years (excluding automatic renewal).

No income requirement is needed to benefit from this subsidy.

What is the amount of the subsidy?

The amount of the subsidy will depend in particular on the operator from which you will request this "energy savings certificates" program. The energy suppliers (or their partners) who will offer this financial support under the ESC program are not yet known.

An increase in the subsidy is planned for home care professionals and personal services (assistance to elderly people, people with disabilities, etc.). This increase will be applied provided that the car purchased or leased meets additional eligibility criteria; the vehicle must, in addition to the other required conditions:

  • cost a maximum of €25,000 including tax (battery included);

  • have a curb weight (total weight of the vehicle ready to drive) of less than 1,800 kg.

This increase will be temporary; it will apply only to purchase or lease operations initiated before January 1, 2027 (date of acceptance of the quote or order or lease agreement, for example), and finalized before July 1, 2027 (date of vehicle delivery, for example).

How to request the subsidy?

Once the various operators offering this subsidy are identified, you can submit your request directly to the one you choose.

It is recommended to compare the offers that will be available on the websites of energy suppliers to find the most advantageous one.

The methods of payment for the subsidy (bank transfer, check, etc.) will depend on the energy supplier you choose.

You can benefit from this assistance program for a maximum of 5 used electric vehicles.
