French-style CV: what official websites say

Your foreign CV not working? Here are official tips and what recruiters are not allowed to ask you.

The framework: sending a CV is not even mandatory, and no legal text requires specific mentions. France Travail recommends a clear, concise CV with a hook at the top.

Length: one page if you're just starting out; front and back pages can be justified with at least a decade of experience across various roles.

Content: the chronological CV, the most traditional format, goes from your most recent experience to the oldest; same applies to education. For languages, include a "Foreign Languages" section with your certificates, e.g., TOEIC.

Rights: employers cannot ask you about your family, sexual life, housing, or hobbies, nor can they refuse you based on any of the 25 discriminatory criteria (origin, health status, religion).

For the cover letter: 30 seconds to read, one page, three sections, tailored to each job posting.

Tip: have someone you trust proofread your letter before sending it.

What about you, how did it go? Share your experience in a post: it will help others.
